Thank you, Dr. Ronald Pies…

Dr. Ron Pies has sent our first comment.

I’m so excited. We haven’t even officially launched, but I sent him a sneak preview and he quickly responded.

As you no doubt know, Ronald Pies MD is a Professor of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University; Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University, Boston and Editor-in-Chief of Psychiatric Times, where he contributes to a blog called Couch in Crisis.

He has written and published many books on psychiatry and philosophy as well as a volume of short stories and another of poetry. I’ve read his short stories, Zimmerman’s Tefillin, his poetry, Creeping Thyme and one of his philosophical works, Everything Has Two Handles, The Stoics Guide to the Art of Living. (I keep this last book beside my bed. It’s better than any sleeping pill or anti-anxiety drug.)

He is a true polymath and he is and has been remarkably generous and supportive of “Coming Out Crazy” and my work here. I could go on, but I cannot, right now. But  I will.

Now, I have to get back to a pile of essays that need marking.

And to Dr. Pies, you’ve given me the boost I so needed. You’ve opened up a new crack and the light is beautiful and filled with promise and possibility.

Heartfelt thanks for your confidence and your good wishes. I am profoundly touched.

Speak soon.

“Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light.” ~ Groucho Marx

  2. I feel honoured and I wholeheartedly agree with you, Dr. Pies.

Here’s to light. Lots of bright, warm light. And to throwing open windows as well as opening new doors.

    Cheers,
